How much will AI coding cost me per month?

Pick the tools, the hours you build each week, and whether that time is light, medium, or heavy. The dollar amounts are the checked plan prices. Which plan those hours land on is an estimate. Prices were checked 2026-10-26. The calculator is free.

How this estimate is built

Figures are read from the Fitbuild catalog, the same data/tools.json file the weekly price check updates. A plan with a price marked Verify, or with no dollar amount, is left out of the total. Team plans are left out. Plans the catalog does not count toward a beginner budget are left out.

Light counts each hour once, medium counts it 2 times, and heavy counts it 4 times. A useful verified free plan covers a score equal to its free-tier weight squared. Each verified paid plan above that covers 12 more points, cheapest first. That hours-to-plan step is an estimate. Vendors publish prices and limits on the linked pricing page, and they publish their own quota, which is the number to trust when you pay.

Yearly billing uses the annual price in the catalog, divided into a monthly equivalent, when that note reconciles to one figure. Otherwise the estimate keeps the monthly price and says so.

Questions people actually ask

How much will AI coding cost me per month?

Add the tools you plan to use, the hours you build each week, and whether that time is light, medium, or heavy. The calculator sums the individual plan prices in the Fitbuild catalog. The lowest individual paid price that counts toward a budget is Cursor Plus at $8/mo. Which tier those hours land on is an estimate. Prices were checked October 26, 2026.

When is the free plan enough?

A verified free plan is treated as enough when the demand score stays inside the free-tier weight squared. Light counts each hour once, medium twice, and heavy four times. A free plan is listed as useful for Cursor, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, Lovable, Bolt.new, Replit, v0, Windsurf, Google Antigravity, Kiro, Jules, and Amp. Claude Code is not: Free Claude does not include Claude Code. You need Pro or Max before this tool exists for you. That cutoff is an estimate. The limit that matters is the one on the tool's pricing page.

Which prices does the calculator skip?

A plan is left out of the total when its price is marked Verify, or when no dollar amount is set. Team plans are left out. Plans the catalog does not count toward a beginner budget are left out. The tool is flagged, and the page links the official pricing page so you can confirm the live number.

Does yearly billing change the estimate?

When the catalog publishes a yearly price that reconciles to one monthly equivalent, the estimate uses that figure and still shows a per-month number. When the yearly note is missing, or the figures in it disagree, the estimate keeps the monthly price and says so.
